We are delighted to announce that three of our long-time supporters have provided Scenarios USA with renewed and generous support.
The Ford Foundation granted Scenarios a three-year $400,000 grant. The grant will be used to deepen and diversify our programs that: engage educators in addressing sexual health across curriculum, work with youth in focused communities to develop leadership and advocacy skills, and increase Scenarios' film and materials distribution across the nation.
The Mary Wohlford Foundation granted Scenarios $32,000 for general programs and to support Scenarios and our youth writers as we pilot a Youth Leadership Program in South Texas.
Launched on July 13, 2005, our Youth Leadership Program already has exciting news: three of the writers of Toothpaste have been asked to be the keynote speakers at the Texas School Health Association Conference in Austin on January 29th!
The Edward S. Moore Foundation, "impressed by how quickly [Scenarios has become] such a national force," awarded us a three-year grant of $45,000 for general programs. The Foundation's support will aid Scenarios as we increase our staff to meet the demand for our films and community-based services.
This increased support from long-time funders comes at a critical time for sexual health education in our nation. According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study, more than three-quarters of adolescents and young adults express a need for more information about sexual health topics. Scenarios USA works to meet this need by providing educators with the tools to promote discussion among teens, encouraging them to express their concerns and share their knowledge on sexual health with their peers.
On the heels of unprecedented national press exposure, Scenarios' new films are being picked up daily by TV channels, film festivals and websites! All Falls Down is playing right now on Chattheplanet.com. A Memoir to My Former Self will be screened at the Reel Venus Film Festival in New York City tonight and at the T Tauri Film Festival in Arkansas on Friday, July 29th. Toothpaste is currently featured on teenwire.com. And, if you live in the Tampa, Florida area, don't miss The Education Channel's (Channel 18) Annual Independents' Film Festival during which Toothpaste, A Memoir to My Former Self and All Falls Down will be televised during the month of September.
Scenarios USA knows that youth created media can be powerful, honest, and entertaining. We're thrilled that media outlets are helping our youth writers bring their vital messages to a growing audience.
