Dear REAL DEAL Educator,
Thank you for attending one of our What's the REAL DEAL about Masculinity? teacher
workshops. We had more than 260 teachers attend in May and September-
especially ELA, Social Studies, Drama and Health teachers, as well as
counselors and social workers, in Region One, Cleveland and New York
City.
It was a pleasure to meet you all and to learn about
your teaching contexts. We were excited about your responses to our
curriculum and teaching activities. Here is some feedback we got from
you.

Highlights
Lessons you learned about gender and masculinity
"I learned how prevalent masculinity impacts the development of youth." "Masculinity can be a powerful teaching tool for both genders." "The brainstorm activity helped me see what a tall order being a man is!" "Gender rules are fluid- we can change them." "I learned that most of our ideas about masculinity are based on unrealistic expectations."
|
Favorite workshop activities
From our curriculum
 - "The Masculinity A-Z" (a.ka. the stickies activity) - "The Boy in a Box" (and using language as a tool of social control) - Meeting members of the Scenarios USA Speakers Bureau and hearing them talk about masculinity and their films

Potential obstacles
To teaching the curriculum
"Level of maturity of the students." "Teachers worried about testing- competition for time." "Administrators who do not understand the program." "Keeping students on task and using positive language."
We hope that over the next few months we can help each other overcome these obstacles through email and discussions on Facebook!

"Attendance sheet" evaluation project
Win a $50 gift card
 Thanks
to those who signed up for this special project. We are very keen to
see how participating in our curriculum impacts attendance in your
classroom.
We need 30 more teachers
to monitor the attendance of their students for each lesson they teach
from our curriculum. One teacher will be randomly selected to receive a
$50 gift card as a sign our appreciation. Contact me if you're
interested in participating at ernestine@scenariosusa.org.
