TEEN
PREGNANCY PREVENTION INITIATIVE Scenarios USA Teen
Pregnancy Films
A new
federal funding initiative to prevent teen pregnancy was
recently announced by the Office of Adolescent Health, the Office of
Public Health and Science and the Administration for Children and
Families (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). $25-35 million
dollars will be awarded to Research and Demonstration Programs.
Even
though the numbers are dropping, rates of teen
pregnancy in the United
States are still significantly higher than
any other country in the industrialized world. Adolescent childbearing is more common
in the United States
(22% of women reported having had a child before age 20) than in Great
Britain
(15%), Canada (11%), France (6%) and Sweden (4%); differences are even
greater
for births to younger teenagers. Source: http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/3324401.html

The National
Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy focuses on preventing teen
pregnancy and unplanned
pregnancy among teens and young adults. Through its effective
grassroots movement and influences in
media, the National Campaign listens carefully to young people and
allows their viewpoints
to be
included and informed in their work.
This month, teens
nationwide will be asked to participate in a number of online
activities-including
the popular National Day Quiz-that challenge them to think carefully
about what they might do
"in the moment." It is important to talk to your teens about unplanned
pregnancy
and parenthood. Visit The National
Campaign website: http://www.thenationalcampaign.org
