April 2010
is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Teen dating violence
prevention groups all over the country are talking about the Scenarios
USA curriculum's approach to redefining masculinity. Our lessons on
strength and violence, masculinity in the media and gender-based
violence all ask students to critically analyze their ideas about
gender, identity, power and violence. Find out more about our curriculum
here: www.scenariosusa.org/MasculinityCurriculum2009.
Our
lessons also integrate one of our best-selling films, Bitter Memories, which deals with
child abuse, domestic abuse and sexual violence prevention. Preview Bitter Memories here: www.scenariosusa.org/watchfilms/bitter_memories
The
April 2010 Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign focuses on
preventing sexual violence on higher education campuses. College
students experience disproportionately high rates of sexual violence - 1
in 5 college women will be a victim of sexual assault by the time she
graduates. In addition to serving the many survivors on campus, there
exists an opportunity for prevention and social change that will have a
lasting effect on students throughout their lives. For more information

Coming Up -
National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is May 5, 2010
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen
Pregnancy focuses on preventing teen pregnancy and unplanned
pregnancy among teens and young adults. Through their effective
grassroots movement and influences in
media, they listen carefully to young people and allow their viewpoints
to be
included and informed in their work. On May 5th, teens
nationwide will be asked to visit StayTeen.org to participate in a
number of online activities-including the popular National Day Quiz-that
deliver teen pregnancy prevention messages and challenge them to think
carefully about what they might do "in the moment."
Check out these films that may help your students talk about this issue:
