Scenarios USA is proud to announce that its film Reflections, written by 17 year-old Keyana Ray from Maywood, IL and produced in partnership with BET’s Rap-It-Up Campaign and The Kaiser Family Foundation, helped BET win an Emmy® for Best Community Service Campaign at The Humanitarian, Public and Community Service Emmy Awards®!
Reflections is about three best friends who learn to take the risk of HIV/AIDS seriously as they navigate romantic relationships. Reflections was written by Keyana Ray from Maywood, Illinois, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball), shot by Johnny Jensen (Rosewood) and produced by Billy Higgins (Honey). Keyana was the winner of the first ever Scenarios USA/Rap-It-Up “What’s the REAL DEAL on Growing up in the Age of AIDS?” story and scriptwriting contest, which encouraged young people ages 13-18 to write about what HIV/AIDS means to them personally, and to their friends, family, and communities.
BET included Reflections in its submission of long-form programs that represented BET’s Rap-It-Up Campaign for 2007. The Rap-It-Up Campaign is BET’s premier sexual health information resource for young African Americans. The Humanitarian, Public and Community Service Emmy Awards were presented at a luncheon ceremony at the Pegasus Room, 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City on November 9th.
